Project Shaksham brings back hope in Uttarakhand

CAF India had set up a Disaster Relief Fund in June 2013 to support relief and rehabilitation of the affected population in Uttrakhand post the disastrous 2013 flash floods. Besides the loss of lives, a large number of people have lost their assets, livelihood and local infrastructure.

A Rapid Situation Assessment was conducted in Chamoli district to understand the current situation related to rehabilitation. CAF India is a member of Inter Agency Coordination Committee formed in the Uttrakhand for unified response strategy on disaster.

CAF India adopted a 2-pronged approach as part of its disaster management strategy. To tackle the immediate needs of the affected people, food, medicines, clean drinking water ( chlorine tablets), blankets, tents & tarpaulins, match boxes, torches, candles, and biscuits were provided. These packs was distributed in the community through our NGO partners.

Under the relief support program, the relief materials consisting of family kit and shelter kit were provided to the affected population of Govindghat and Pandukeshwar villages of Joshimath block of Chamoli district. Meanwhile, we were also working steadfastly to develop a need based rehabilitation plan.
