CAF India position paper ‘Achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization by Promoting SMEs’

The position paper titled ‘Achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization by Promoting SMEs’ authored by CAF India has been  unveiled by Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of the Republic of India and Shri Suresh P. Prabhu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce on 30th Nov and 1st December, 2017 in New Delhi.

CAF India was the knowledge partner for the 2017 International Conference on Small and Medium Enterprises (ICSME) organized by World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME), the paper was released as a critical knowledge outcome at this global conference.

As India gradually emerges to be one of the leading economies in the world, there are assuring statistics to show that SMEs, the largest employers in the country, are playing a crucial role in the process of India’s development. The challenges to meet the SDGs for India, as an example, are huge – a requirement of around $5-7 trillion annually.

Therefore, the objective of this position paper is to highlight the wide spectrum of SMEs in India, and how leveraging the SDGs can be an opportunity for them to enhance social good while doing business in a responsible manner. In showcasing the case practice and providing key recommendations, our endeavour is to highlight specific sustainable SME models that are contributing to meet the SDGs targets.
